Puppy Socialization & Early Learning Volunteers

The Puppy Foundations Crew plays a vital role in helping our youngest dogs grow into confident, well-adjusted companions. These volunteers focus on positive, age-appropriate socialization experiences that support healthy emotional and behavioral development during a critical learning window.

Through gentle handling, exposure, and enrichment, you’ll help set puppies up for lifelong success—both in the shelter and in their future homes.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide positive human interaction through gentle handling and play

  • Support early socialization with new sights, sounds, textures, and experiences

  • Introduce basic foundations like name recognition, leash familiarity, and calm behaviors

  • Engage puppies in age-appropriate enrichment and play

  • Observe and report puppy behavior, comfort levels, and progress to the behavior team/staff


Requirements & Expectations

  • Must complete Puppy Foundations training before claiming shifts

  • Follow fear-free, positive reinforcement handling practices at all times

  • Ability to read puppy body language and respond appropriately

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment

  • Communicate concerns or observations promptly with staff
