Puppy Socialization & Early Learning Volunteers
The Puppy Foundations Crew plays a vital role in helping our youngest dogs grow into confident, well-adjusted companions. These volunteers focus on positive, age-appropriate socialization experiences that support healthy emotional and behavioral development during a critical learning window.
Through gentle handling, exposure, and enrichment, you’ll help set puppies up for lifelong success—both in the shelter and in their future homes.
What You’ll Do

Provide positive human interaction through gentle handling and play

Support early socialization with new sights, sounds, textures, and experiences

Introduce basic foundations like name recognition, leash familiarity, and calm behaviors

Engage puppies in age-appropriate enrichment and play

Observe and report puppy behavior, comfort levels, and progress to the behavior team/staff
Requirements & Expectations

Must complete Puppy Foundations training before claiming shifts

Follow fear-free, positive reinforcement handling practices at all times

Ability to read puppy body language and respond appropriately

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment

Communicate concerns or observations promptly with staff
